Qualifications

Jeffrey M. Kalban founded KALBAN ARCHITECTS, INC. in 1982 after spending 12 years as a Designer/Senior Project Designer for firms such as I. M. Pei and Partners in New York City and Pereira Associates in Los Angeles. He has been responsible for the design of major office, institutional, commercial, and hotel projects here and abroad.

A graduate of Ohio State University, Mr. Kalban excels in providing innovative and distinguished solutions to interesting design problems associated with varied sizes of architectural commissions, while still delivering the projects on schedule and on budget. In 40 years, Kalban Architects, Inc. has received over 50 awards for architectural design - a great honor and accomplishment and has been named one of the Top 50 firms in the United States by Architect Magazine.

  • Designer of the South Building at the Getty Center.

  • Designer of the 9400 Building for the City of Beverly Hills.

  • Master Planner and Designer for 165,000 square feet of new buildings for the Middle School Campus of Harvard-Westlake School.

  • Planner and Designer for Marymount High School projects including the renovation of Butler Hall dormitory into classrooms and the creation of a new school entrance “Gateway to Marymount”.

  • Designer of St Paul the Apostle School Learning Center and Gym. 33,000 sf

  • Designer and Master Planner of Pasadena Christian School library, Junior High, and Administration buildings.

  • Master Plan, Program, and Design of 175,000 square feet of new Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper School buildings for Viewpoint School in Calabasas.

  • Designer of the headquarters and regional center for PATH, People Assisting the Homeless.

  • Other projects include Intimate Theater (Black Box) for Cal State LA,

  • The Porter Ranch Performance Pavilion, and projects at USC.

  • As an adjunct to his extensive interior work, Mr. Kalban created a new line of furniture, the Westwood Lounge Series. Mr. Kalban's other artistic pursuits include painting and sculpture. These endeavors investigate architectural space and formal juxtapositions free from the constraints of architectural structure.

    Indicative of his leadership in the professional community, Mr. Kalban has served on the Board of Directors of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the AIA, Member, and Chair of the Westwood Village Design Review Board, and is a member of the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council, and chairs the Planning & Land Use Committee and the Vision Committee.

  • Project Architect for 36,000 sf conversion of an office building to transitional housing for the homeless, with an Access Center and educational facilities for People Assisting the Homeless. (PATH)

  • Project Architect for the South Building at the Getty Center for the J. Paul Getty Trust, a 70,000 square-foot office and storage facility, located at the service entry to the Getty Center

  • Project Architect for Curtis School project, located on Mulholland Drive, which included 4 classroom buildings, a maintenance building, and a gymnasium/auditorium building totaling 35,000 sf

  • Project Architect for AirFlite, Incorporated, a general aviation and corporate facility at the Long Beach (CA) Airport. The four-story, 36,000 square-foot terminal and corporate office building is the central facility for the 12-acre site, which includes 122,000 sq. ft. of aircraft hangar space, aircraft taxiways and tie-downs, an aviation fuel farm, and automobile parking and drop-off areas.

  • Architectural Review Committee-Lead Consultant-2016 to present. Century Woods HOA. Review plans submitted by homeowners for compliance with Rules and Regulations and Architectural Standards. Assist and advise on the inspection of units during construction. Assist and advise on common area upgrades. Project management of common area landscape and hardscape renovation

Alain Yotnegparian, AIA

Qualifications

Alain Yotnegparian joined the firm in 1991. He had previously worked at The Jerde Partnership on the project teams for Circle Center in Indianapolis and Universal City Walk, two large mixed-use developments. At Kalban Architects his involvement starts in the planning stages, working closely with Jeffrey Kalban and carrying the design through the construction document phase and construction. He has chaired architectural review committees and worked with local planning departments. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from the University of Southern California.

  • Project Architect for The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks. Master Plan of the campus was carried out in 3 phases. Buildings include 19,500 sf Academic & Performing Arts bldg., 15,500 sf Math & Science bldg., 11,000 sf Library & Admin bldg., 10,000 sf Visual Arts bldg., Athletic Facilities

  • Project Architect & Project Manager for The Wesley School in North Hollywood. Master Planned and entitlements for a 4-phase modernization and expansion. Phase 1, Arts and Administration Bldg., and Athletic Field

  • Project Architect for California State University Fullerton-Visual Arts College. Master plan and design for 150,000 sf modernization and expansion.

  • Project Architect for Compulaw Office Building. A 3-story, 20,000 sf building in Century City,

  • Project Architect for Viewpoint School in Calabasas. Master Plan, entitlements, and design on 25 acres for 175,000 sf of new buildings.

  • Project Architect for Pan Pacific Park Recreation Center-City of Los Angeles. Master Plan 9-acre portion of park. New 24,000 sf double gym & classrooms, sports fields, and 11,000 sf Senior Center.

  • Project Architect for California State University at Los Angeles. New black box theater.

  • Project Architect for various interior projects for The J. Paul Getty Trust at The Getty Center.

  • Projects include Antiquities Conservation and Curatorial Department, Villa Team Project Offices

  • Project Architect for Tenant Improvement for Toyota San Francisco Regional Facilities. Renovation and expansion of existing corporate facilities.

  • Building and Grounds Committee-Chairperson-2012 to 2021 - The Wesley School- provide oversight to the school’s facilities and operations processes. Prepared campus standards manual, campus review procedures and maintenance manual. Conduct periodic campus review. Provide guidance and recommendations for new projects and lead efforts for significant projects.

    Master Planning Group: Chairperson- 2013 to 2021. Ad hoc board committee to lead efforts in planning the vision for the school’s expansion and master plan in line with the Long-Range Plan. Completed the Master plan and Phase 1 projects. Commencing with the 2nd phase.
